I've been having trouble with coming out to my mom. I'm gay and she's a single parent, so she's already really stressed out. She's also not all the way accepting of gay people. I don't want to make her angry or upset. Please help!
Hi! First of all, I'd like to say that you're such a considerate person for thinking about your mom even though you're going through a rough time. However, never forget that you're the child and she's the parent! She's taking care of you, not the other way around. Second, you should come out whenever you feel ready and that the situation is safe. Coming out to someone, especially your parent, can be extremely nerve-wracking and scary (it was for me, too). Try not to plan the situation out in your mind beginning to end, because chances are it's not going to go that exact way. Give her time to process too, no matter her reaction. However, when you decide to tell her, if you feel that the situation it puts you in an unsafe position, leave. I included some resources below to help you. I wish you all the luck in the world! Thanks for submitting!
